Shadowing Opportunities
Description: College students interested in spending a few days to learn about biomedical research can apply for a Shadowing Opportunity at TBRI. During the visits you will have the opportunity to interact with the President, key scientists, and technicians to learn about the history of TBRI and the workings of a research institute. This experience will hopefully help you decide on whether you might want to pursue a career in biomedical research.

Eligibility: The Shadowing Opportunity is for current  college students only. To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student.

Availability: the COVID19 pandemic necessitates halting the shadowing program for 2022 or until the virus spread has significantly waned.

Application process:  Fill out the Request Information form and type "Shadowing Opportunities" in the Request box. We will then contact you by email and supply you with further instructions on how to initiate the application process.

SHADOWING, INTERNSHIPS, and RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND EDUCATORS
Description: In honor of their daughter, Jessica, the Mandula family has established a scholarship for an Eckerd College student interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research.

The recipient of the scholarship  will work closely with a team of senior scientists on ongoing research projects at TBRI. Upon successful completion of the 8 week long experience, the student will have much of the training and experience necessary to be successful in graduate level research.

Program requirements: The participant in this 8-week long program will be required to make a full-time commitment (at least 40 hours per week) to the project.  At the end of the program the student will be required to prepare a research paper summarizing their experimental findings and will also be required to make an oral presentation of their findings to their co-workers, research advisors, and representatives from the Mandula family.

Eligibility requirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled in Eckerd College and are contemplating the pursuit of a Ph.D. degree in the biological or biomedical sciences.  The applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0, have completed Cell Biology, Genetics and General Chemistry courses, and have performed well in the laboratory sections of their science courses.  Letters of recommendation from their mentor and science professors will be included in the evaluation process.

Availability:  1 seat per year (currently not available due to continuing spread of COVID19)

Application Process: Fill out the Request Information form and type "Mandula Scholarship at TBRI" in the Request box or have your Eckerd College mentor contact us at TBRI. We will then contact you by email and supply you with further instructions on how to initiate the application process.
